How It Started
And Where We Are Now
Out of college many moons ago, I decided I wanted to help people accomplish their fitness goals and became a personal trainer at a highly regarded gym in Mid Michigan. Surrounded by elite athletes with far greater accomplishments than my lowly 18 year old self ever dreamed she'd be able to claim over her lifetime, I caught wind one day of a conversation involving the idea of hiking the Grand Canyon in it's entire length in one single day. It landed on my ears then as climbing Mount Everest would now- sheer impossibility. Frankly, my young self didn't last long in that arena of champions and made a career switch shortly after, but the idea of dreaming big never left me. In the year 2021, I found myself (nearly 20 years later) among colleagues at a new job in a meet and greet zoom meeting (global pandemic style), during which one of the women in the room shared with us her most exciting summer adventure- A Grand Canyon Hike. Rim to Rim. In One day.
It was one of those full circle, reconsidering-all-of-your-life-choices-type of moments. I decided right then and there I was going to do it.
It was my time.
I was going to hike the Grand Canyon rim to rim in one day.
I knew it would take some planning, preparation and training, which fits right in to my own evolution of health and wellness I've been creating for myself over the past several years. I'll touch on my fitness transformation a bit here and there, but that story would be a blog entirely in and of itself.
I've decided to use this space to chronicle the process of going from deciding to be a person who's hiked the Grand Canyon rim to rim in one day, to being a person who's hiked the Grand Canyon rim to rim in one day. If you're interested in seeing how it unfolds, you are in the right spot!
